Calgary Coffee Culture – 5 Awesome Cafes To Get Your Caffeine Fix
I’m feeling coffee this week. Actually everyday is coffee day. Yesterday Saturday after lunch, I finished my meal and had an urge to really really go to a cafe with my laptop. Write a post, relax, and do internet stuff. Sadly, this lifestyle is on hold at the moment. I could go somewhere within Canada though interprovincial travel is not even an option at the moment. My travel mind palace reminded me of my awesome time exploring Calgary coffee scene during my visits in the city.
I would have loved to visit Alberta again, hike the Rocky Mountains and also see one of my very good friend. She my coffee buddy so I went cafe hopping with her when I visited her in Calgary. Surprised that Calgary has a coffee scene because I only know that it’s famous for the wild outdoors, picturesque lakes, and bears. Always been exploring the great outdoors on my two times visited of the province. I went to Banff for both trips and explored the Kananaskis. I am actually happy to discover that Calgary has a very vibrant coffee culture so I was able to get my caffeine fix.
Cafes are great. When you enter and see the interior, it sets the ambience of the place. The friendly staff that takes your order, grab it then you sit and do your own thing. Going to cafes is one of the activities I do when I travel on top of trying out local foods like what I did in Montreal and Kensington Market in Toronto. I spend some time during the day to visit one. When I went to Calgary
I’ve gone attached to these places while I was there and would love to go back and visit again. I’m also a big fan of latte art and had amazing experiences in cafes around the world that made me not want to touch my drink because it’s so pretty. Here are the top places to get your caffeine fix in the city!
1. A Ladybug Bakery and Cafe
Located 20 minutes outside the downtown core, A Ladybug Bakery & Cafe is a great hangout spot for a weekend afternoon chit chat about life. Since it’s outside downtown, they got a lot of tables and chairs for you to sit and enjoy your coffee. This lovely cafe has amazing desserts that goes well with the coffee they serve.
My friend introduced me to this cafe after spending the day at the Upper Kananaskis Lake and explored the trails. It was a nice treat after all the walk. They have extensive amount of desserts and lattes. You can get one of the latest food trends in the dessert world. They have cruffins, a croissant muffin hybrid, a rare dessert to find so make you try them.
2. Muze Coffee House
Muze Coffee House is a hole in the wall type of cafe located in a basement in the Chinatown neighbourhood in Calgary. It’s a Chinese cafe that serves those amazing Chinese buns and if paired with coffee is an amazing combination! I liked the cozy feelings of this cafe operated by a Chinese couple making freshly based buns everyday.
The red space is amazing! It’s super cozy and great for working. They have plugs and free wi-fi. Pair a pour over Rosso coffee (local roaster mentioned later) with one of their buns and craving satisfied! I spent a good afternoon working here, didn’t even realize the time went by and it’s time for dinner. I just snacked on buns and more pour over.
3. Deville Coffee
Deville Coffee is a very famous cafe in downtown Calgary that has a very nice decor and enjoy your coffee. The space is actually good for working and it’s heavily visited my the office workers around the area. Their to-go cups have nice art on them and the menu offers breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, and awesome coffee from local roasters. Besides the regular coffee selections, they have unique latte ones like the Chocolate Ganache Latte and Nutella Latte.
4. Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters
The plant loving cafe Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters Stephen Avenue location is a great place to relax and unwind. The space is great and well thought out decor. I say plant loving because they are everywhere, it’s so refreshing to see. Beside the cashier, on the wall, and window, you’ll feel like your in some jungle while sipping coffee. They have the typical coffee menu and make cute latte art so order a cappuccino or latte to get this!
5. Rosso Coffee Roasters
Rosso Coffee Roaster is a very popular cafe in the city and it lives up to its reputation. Even the cafes in the city brew coffee from Rosso like Muze. I love it! Locals supporting locals! I went to the downtown location inside the Telus Convention Centre on Macleod Trail close to the Calgary Tower.
Friendly staff, cute art on the wall, and nicely spaced out tables. Rosso roasts their own beans and they even distribute to local cafes. They got awesome coffee so a typical brew or cold brew is enough. I wanted to try their beans so I got a cold brew and it was delicious. Fully embodied caffeine taste. I even bought beans to take home when I visited.
