Daytripping Outside Toronto – 4 Fun Destinations in the Township of King To Do Your Fall Activities
Temperatures are dropping and I’m currently shopping for winter tires for my pretty new white car. This is a good thing because I’m probably gonna land travel because I still cannot air travel with the fourth wave or so coming in this pandemic. Good thing Ontario land is vast so I can easily take my car and do quick daily road trips to get fresh air outside the city. My friend and I decided to take a day trip to King, a small cute township that’s around half an hour away from Toronto to do some fall stuff.
I decided to put aside writing my one week itinerary destinations in the maritimes for this one. I swear I’ll get back to it on the next post (I have two left, technically 1 because PEI is almost ready!). We’re still in Canada for a couple of months post stretching until the end of the year perhaps. Pandemic times.
Fall weather is here so it’s that time of the year to do fall activities! My favourite season because of the colourful maple leaves and the farms have full grown pumpkins and apple tree to pick your own.
King Day Trip
King and area turned out to be a good day trip destination because of its close proximity to Toronto with so many things to do. Popular activities include picking your own whatever be it apples, pumpkins, flowers and vegetables depending on the harvest period. Farms will let you know of the harvest dates so you can go pick your favourites when they’re ripe.
My way of supporting local business and I love buying locally grown products. As organic as it can get! Fresh produce and specialty pies made from seasonally local grown ingredients. Visiting King for a day trip definitely satisfies a quick rewind outside Toronto.
1. Pine Farm Orchard
Pine Farm Orchard is an apple orchard which also sells amazing baked goods. Located in 2700 16th Side Road, King, this was our first stop. The price to pick your own apples for $2.00/lb with an admission fee of $5.00 per person. We were here to checkout the market and ordered amazing food for lunch. Pumpkin pecan crumble pie, squash and apple soup, apple and cheddar quiche, raisin and pecan tarts, and apple cidre to drink picnic setting on the grass. Very pet friendly market so you can bring your dogs and they can meet other dogs.
2. JC Agri Orchards
2 minutes away from Pine Farm Orchards is JC Agri Orchards. Another apple orchard with a very large lot of various apples where you can also pick your own apples. The price is $2.00/lb and $10.00 per vehicle. It can get pretty busy if you go in the afternoon so I recommend you go early when they open so you can get the fresh pick for the day.
You can easily spend a good amount of time here going through aisles of apple trees. Many great photo opportunities for social media photos. I think I spent about one to two hours here and there was a barn acoustic performance at 1 pm in front of many straw bales where kids were climbing and running all over the place.
3. Marques Family Market
From JC, we drove north on Keele St for 16 minutes to Newmarket and stopped at Marques Family Market to checkout some more locally grown products. Newmarket is close the King so you’re still not that far from Toronto. They have a super cute store that’s open on weekends where they sell what they’ve grown from their backyard. So much varieties of fruits and vegetables freshly picked, meat and dairy products, baked goods and crafts from local artists. One specific product they sell that I almost went crazy buying every type was the Mitchell’s Soup Series produced by a local family owned food company Mitchell Soup Co.
4. Robintide Farm
Final destination was the Robintide Farm in Vaughan as we drove south to cut the drive back to Toronto while still exploring King and area. It’s a farm that has many fun family and fall activities such as corn maze, pick your own vegetables, pumpkins, and flowers. I think I saw a lot of families here more than the other places because of the corn maze. They are only open from Thursday to Sunday. 10 am to 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The area is quite big so you will get a lot of walking exercise and they have a really good website where you can see the harvest schedule to time your pick your own produce. They have good selection of vegetables of gourds, tomatoes, zucchinis, eggplants, peppers and many more you can pick and the prices are pretty reasonable.
