Macau Itinerary – Ultimate Day Trip
Macau has been a quick day trip destination for anyone who’s in Hong Kong. Known for its casinos and Portuguese food, I also wanted to do what locals do so during my quick visit in Hong Kong, my coworker offered to show me around Macau for a day. We casino hopped, explored its cultural city streets, and tried many Macau eats. If Europe has Monaco and the States has Vegas, Asia has Macau. The same casino brands in Vegas are also in Macau, and most likely, even more and the Portuguese influence is still visible up to this day. This is my one day itinerary exploring Macau’s best. You’ll find all the top things to do from landmarks, casinos, and food in an orderly fashion.
Morning – Portuguese Tarts, Coloane, and Casino
First stop was breakfast south of the island for Portuguese tarts. Yes, weird but I cannot miss the opportunity to try Lord Stow’s Bakery in Coloane. When we arrived there, it was already packed with tourists and locals. We grabbed a set of four and two iced coffees. I absolutely love Portuguese tarts! The tarts were very firm. Perfect crust. The insides weren’t soft that the custard didn’t fall apart.
After tarts, we walked around Coloane village – where many cultural architecture and the Chapel of St Francis Xavier is located. The chapel was situated right on the main square surrounded by other historical buildings. I love seeing buildings that withstand the age of time. The area is actually an UNESCO World Heritage Site so it was a good idea to walk around and explore the neighbourhood.
Next stop was Galaxy Macau Casino. To gamble. Jokes, I don’t gamble but I wouldn’t pass the opportunity to see the glamorous-ness casinos in Macau have to offer. Crystal chandelier hanging in the middle of the foyer lit up to what I will describe as EDM lights per se.
Afternoon – More Casino, St. Paul Ruins, and Red Light District
We took a taxi to Cotai area to check out another casino named The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. This one mimics Italian city Venice architecture. I haven’t been to Venice but I can say ‘I’ve been and seen it’ all thanks to my trip to this casino.
We walked around more and ended up at the most touristy spot – the Ruins of St. Paul. Also, around the ruins were many Bak Kwa stores so we sampled a couple. We ventured out the red light districts too.
Evening – Back To Hong Kong, Tsui Wah Restaurant
Feet tired and bellies still kinda full, we went back to Hong Kong via ferry. After 60 minutes of ferry ride, it’s dinner time so we went to Tsui Wah Restaurant – another Hong Kong staple restaurant. My coworker ordered so many dishes from spicy noodles soup, HK buttered french toast, Chinese broccoli on ice, to beef stir fry.
