Awesome Itinerary for a Two Weeks Trip in Thailand!
The amazing country of Thailand! One of my favourite countries! I had a really good time here from the friendly people, rich in culture, amazing food, fun activities, and the beaches! There’s so much adventure in this two weeks trips that I really got to know Thailand really well.
I explored Thailand with two other people. I’m really proud of this itinerary. The route was well planned starting from the northern Thailand of Chiang Mai going down to the southern part in Phuket. The flow of activities were also on point. We were very busy in Chiang Mai booking tours back to back then as we go down south to the beaches, laying down in the sands and napping were added as an activity.
This was the part of my 2 months YOLO trip where I probably did every mode of transportation. I rode local transportations like tuktuk and songthaew and even the standard ones to travel to each destinations.
The travel and accommodation lifestyle also levelled up as I moved to the next destination. I didn’t even realize what we were doing until I remember that the last accommodation was luxurious stay at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa for a whopping price of $80 CAD/night (thank my Friends & Family Discount rate). Levelling up towards the last stretch so by the end, staying at the resort was a great idea for relaxation and beach time.
I’m gonna go through the highlights to share with you the beauty and uniqueness of each places and why you should also choose them as your destinations when you visit Thailand. The detailed itinerary for each destinations will come in the upcoming weeks so hang tight!
Chiang Mai – 3 Days
First destination in the itinerary was Chiang Mai. It’s in northern Thailand where the country’s epic mountains, forests, and national parks are located. With that knowledge, the best thing to do here is to obviously explore the mountains and at the same time hangout with elephants! YESS!! Elephants are must when in Thailand. We booked a half-day tour through Klook. Here is the link for the tour if you’re interested.
We also went to Chiang Rai province because of the famous Wat Rong Khun (White Temple วัดร่องขุ่น) and Baan dam Museum (Black House/Black Temple). We were already up north so why not.
Chiang Mai is also known for having many ancient temples. More than 30 temples can be found inside the city alone! The day we arrived here, we familiarized ourselves with the city and literally did Temple Run in real life.
Bangkok – 4 Days
Next stop in the trip was the capital city of Bangkok! There’s so much to do so we were pretty busy from morning until night time with fun activities. It’s the backpacker’s paradise for everything here from food and living standards are within budget.
This part of the trip was one of the busiest! So much things to do! The city is so big so you may get overwhelmed but the tip is to properly plan and list down the most important places you want to visit or experience first.
So much sight seeing done here to check out the main attractions. We spent a couple of hours exploring the grounds of the Grand Palace, cooled off at the really big shopping mall Siam Paragon, and shopped at the weekend market Chatuchak Weekend Market. We even did an excursion trip to see the ancient city of Ayutthaya.
The day time was busy and the night was just as fun! I got to walk on the famous backpackers nightlife street of Khao San Road where I saw one of the famous travellers of all time Drew Binsky like OMG! I could not believe my eyes (more on that story later). One of the nights, we went to a Calypso Cabaret performance and it was so extravagant! My nightlife didn’t stop there. I enjoyed some cocktails and music while overlooking the Bangkok skyline at the Sky Bar. Located 64th floor of the fancy hotel Lebua State Tower.
We even met up with our other group of friends who were also in Thailand at the same time as us. It happened that our Bangkok, Ko Pha Ngan, and Phuket schedule were in sync. So pretty much we ended up meeting up at night for dinner and for drinks.
Bangkok is a great place to experience authentic traditional Thai food for any type of dining style! Every type of restaurant possible. On the side of the road, a cafe, inside the markets, on the streets, and inside a fine dining restaurant. I went to two Michelin starred restaurants here. Saneh Jaan, one of the two, made it to my top fine dining list.
Surat Thani – 1 Day
I made a stop at this city which serves as the gateway to the islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The flight we booked from Bangkok (DMK) to Surat Thani (URT) arrived in the afternoon and ferry times to Ko Pha Ngan were not aligned with our arrival. But that’s okay! This seaside city was very cute to explore and ate as much Thai food when the night market came to life.
Ko Pha Ngan – 3 Days
Island girl forever. Kho Pha Ngan will always be in my heart. This is where I spent my 28th birthday so there’s no way I would forget this place let alone this trip! The full moon party in the month of November 2018 ended up being the next day of my birthday.
There are many islands in this region. Ko Samui is also a popular one. We wanted to see what the Full Moon Party is all about so we planned our trip to make sure we are in Ko Pha Ngan when the event is happening.
So basically, this island is a party island. lol! But I also did non-party activities like lie on the beach. I swam, snorkled, hiked a tiny mountain on a very sunny hot afternoon, and slept on a hammock. Haha!
It was the start of our laid back travel lifestyle as we left the mountains and the busy city heading towards the south. We also did a day trip to explore the island with Mingalaba! Met fellow travellers and saw more of the islands local gems!
Phuket – 3 Days
The beach was the perfect end of the Thailand trip. The laid back atmosphere seeing the sunset golden sunset in a long stretch of white sands of Karon beach. The last destination of the trip and the most relaxing one. Actually, except for one intense activity!
I did an ATV Tour to go up the mountains to see the Big Buddha with my friend and the other group who were also travelling in Thailand I mentioned above. It was so much fun riding the ATV and trying to stay on track. I’m currently smiling all the way up to my ears as I’m writing this. The tour was with PhukerTour and I drove for about 1.5 hours. Definitely built up a relationship as we bonded over bruises and crashes!
I stayed at the amazing 5 star resort Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa right by Karon beach. It was beach time every day in the resort and on the sands too. The sun was very strong here that I had a heat stroke one afternoon so I had to take a nap in my spacious suite.
I did so much more while travelling Thailand but more on that later. I really enjoyed Thailand and it definitely met my expectations. Friendly and very welcoming locals, delicious food, amazing South East Asia culture, and breath-taking architecture. Everything in this country that don’t hurt your wallet! I would love to come back here even as part of another big trip even just for a couple of days.
