The Ultimate 4 Days Itinerary At The Amazing Capital City of Bangkok, Thailand!

[Read in 8 mins.]

The capital city of Bangkok, Thailand! Very excited to share to you the fun activities I did and eats in this bustling city for 4 days. It felt great to be back in a city after peace and quiet time in Chiang Mai. It was time to let my urban attitude out in Bangkok.

I’ve done most of the top things to do in Thailand in Bangkok. From indoor and outdoor shopping, watching a ladyboy performance, exploring markets and temples, and eating delicious Thai food. Bangkok has it all. I saw both old and new Thailand in 4 days. Definitely enough to immerse in Thailand culture, history, and food.

I learned so much about Thailand and Bangkok from the activities I did day and night. This 4 days itinerary to know Thailand is what you need in order to enjoy your time here!

Day 1 – Bangkok Malls + Sky Bar

Day 1 at the capital and I already know I’ve left the suburbs. The streets were busy with people and there’s a train system – the Bangkok Skytrain. Still travelling with my Chaing Mai crew, we arrived at lunch time and dropped off our luggage at the vacation rental apartment at Silom.

Lunch time means feeding time. My friends and I went to this street food restaurant that’s only open during lunch time on weekdays since Silom is one of Bangkok’s financial hub. This restaurant is highly rated as one of Mark Weins, a famous Bangkok-based food traveller, favourite Bangkok restaurant for dry tom yum noodle dish. He took Drew Binsky here as part of his Silom food tour and of course we went there because it’s right by the apartment (and we’re fan girls). The name of the restaurant is Kuay Teow Khae  (ร้านก๋วยเตี๋ยวแคะ). Their dry noodles was seriously one of the best noodles I’ve ever had in my life. It can be spicy for non spicy eaters but it’s so flavourful and tasty for an affordable price of 60 THB (~CAD $2.00).

After lunch, we wandered around Silom and the surrounding area. We ended up mall hopping because this is also a famous experience in Asia and we took cover because it was raining in the afternoon. Nice fancy cold air-conditioned malls where cool kids hang out and where the cool things are. Of course, we want that see and experience that too. Malls are at least 4 floors high and connected to each other by skywalks/overpass. You don’t have to go out and sweat. We spent most of our time at Terminal 21. We stepped outside for a bit to grab street food for an afternoon snack.

For dinner, we got street food to be brought it back to the apartment then got ready for the Bangkok night life scene! We went to Sky Bar to see the Bangkok skyline. One of the highest rooftop bars in the world. The transportation to the bar was as local as it can get. We hailed a tuktuk and asked the driver to take us to Lebua at State Tower.

Took the elevator up the 64th floor. Ordered cocktails, danced and took photos on the rooftop. I like to see things at the top and rooftop bars are the best location. You can order a drink and enjoy the skyline of the city you’re visiting.

Day 2 – Grand Palace + Siam Square + Calypso

This day was jam packed with more Bangkok things! Woke up early to head to the Grand Palace for a half-day visit. They were open very early and there was already a crowd. Though it was super crowded, I quite enjoyed the experience. The Grand Palace is a great symbol of Thai architecture that anyone visiting the city should not miss. Majestic, pointy, very detailed, and gold buildings. There were temples inside the palace grounds too. Pavilions, gardens, halls, temples that you can pretty much walk everywhere except for the no entry signs which were not a lot.

Do not miss the famous Wat Phra Kaew (วัดพระแก้ว) which is inside the Grand Palace. Considered the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand, inside is the Emerald Buddha, another great Thai Buddhism symbol.

Lunch was at a Bibi Gourmand noodle place Lim Lao Ngow Bistro at Siam Square. Siam Square is the area to hangout so we were there all afternoon. It’s a shopping mall hub, cute boutiques, and hip cafes.

The day 2 night event was a Calypso Cabaret performance by at Asiatique The Riverfront. It’s located right by a river with outdoor stores and a ferris wheel in a pier settings. This is very unique Thailand experience you shouldn’t miss. Performed by katoeys/kathoeys who are way prettier and better looking bodies than me. The katoeys definitely put on quite a performance. It was very entertaining from the singing and dancing and interacting with the audience. I had a lot of fun after the show.

Before calling it a night, we explored Asiatique. The stores were still open after the performance so ended up walking for a bit.

Day 3 – Ayutthaya + Khao San Road

It’s the weekend in Bangkok! A Saturday! My friends and I did an excursion trip to the ancient city ruins of Ayutthaya and went to the famous Bangkok street of Khao San Road.

Ayutthaya City

Ayutthaya City is the home of Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. The city was once the capital of the Siam Kingdom from 13th century to the 17th century. I’m really into visiting UNESCO heritage site or any historic old place so I ended up really enjoying this place. Even though it was scorching hot and walking around at the height of the sun in the afternoon with pants on is not (they have a dress code) was not an enjoyable outfit of the day.

The buildings of the old kingdom are still well put together. The park is very well maintained. There are still many temples/wats here that that you get to explore. Don’t miss Wat Phra Mahathat when you’re here where you’ll see the famous Buddha head wrapped around banyan tree roots. No one knows up to this day how it ended up there but it’s quite cool to see.

Khao San Road

If you’ve been to Bangkok, you must have at least walked around at Khao San Road. Yep, that’s right! This really famous road in Bangkok must be in your list. You can walk here any time of the day and it would still be pretty lit. I remember coming here at night and the morning the next day. I ended getting a foot massage that morning lol. Khao San Road on the weekend is a big party street. Loud music in every bar loud enough to reach the street so people are out dancing on the street.

My friends and I met up with another group of friends who were traveling Thailand the same time as us. Great minds think alike. It just so happened that we were in Bangkok, Ko Pha Nhan, and Phuket at the same time. When we knew that, we planned to meet up at night for dinner and drinks.

8 of us sat down for dinner and drinks in Khao San Road enjoying the Bangkok night life. My amazing friends are all into food so we ate at this restaurant called Magical Thai Food by Max then had those Thai bucket drinks at The One where I spotted Drew Binsky, a well-known travel vlogger. It’s so nice meet people who inspire you because you get more inspired. Him and his girlfriend was doing a Thailand tour group. Their Bangkok leg was the same time when we were in Bangkok and with all the luck in the world we ended up in the same bar!

I was casually talking to my friends when I saw a shadow of a guy that looked familiar. “Wait a second, I recognize this this red head” and I turned my head stared at him as he walked to his table. I asked my other friend who also watches his videos and she confirmed that’s him. I ended up going to his table to meet him. He was very friendly, humble and asked where I’m from. We had a good quick conversation about travelling and took a commemorative photo.

Day 4 – Chatuchak Weekend Market + Back to Back Michelin Dining

This day was dedicated to Thailand market and culinary experience. Since I was in Bangkok on a weekend, I should be going to a weekend market. I went to Chatuchak Weekend Market located outside the busy Silom area. On the food side, I ate at two one star Michelin restaurants in the city. These restaurants are highly rated and known for presenting the Thailand cuisine in whole new level. Methavalai Sorndaeng and Saneh Jaan are the two restaurants I ate at and made me experience the ultimate fine dining Thai experience.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

It’s still weekend in Bangkok so the opportunity to visit a weekend market happened. Got up pretty early and took a ride share vehicle to the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Also known as JJ Market, it’s an outdoor and indoor market that has very good local food, Thai local and traditional products, and services for less touristy prices since it’s a bit outskirts of the Bangkok city centre/central business district (CBD).

We walked and walked and walked around the market. Ate food we found interesting, drank authentic juices made from real fruits locally sourced, and bought Thai products to take home. We also bought our Full Moon Party neon tops here because they would be more expensive in the island. I really liked this market out of all the Thai markets I went to because it was quieter and the prices are better than the more famous touristy markets.

Michelin Dining

For lunch, we had a reservation at a one star Michelin restaurant named Methavalai Sorndaeng (เมธาวลัย ศรแดง) beside the luxurious hotel Methavalai Residence and across the beautiful monument Democracy Monument (อนุสาวรีย์ประชาธิปไตย). You can reserve a table online here or here. Honestly, Thailand has many Michelin starred and Bibi Gourmand places in Bangkok that didn’t hurt the waller therefore we grabbed this opportunity to try two. We chose this place because of the family style dining experience, pretty presentation of the dishes, and price. We ordered their signature dishes steamed fish curry cake, crab meat and acasia red curry, crispy rice noodle with sweet and sour sauce, and spicy banana flower bud salad with fried soft crab all for a delicious price of THB 1,082 (~CAD 46.29).

It was raining when we finished lunch so we ended up going back to our apartment. Have you ever had that travel exhaustion from moving around and with the change of temperature around you? Yes, this happens to you more so here. Knowing that I’m already been travelling for two weeks plus at this point. It’s always very hot outside and they blast the AC inside the buildings. My friend and I actually felt like we were about to catch a fever so we took a nap in the afternoon to get back our energy and it worked. I went out to explore when the rain stopped after a good nap. I wanted to change the colours of my nails so I went to a nail salon near the apartment.

Dinner was at Saneh Jaan, another one star Michelin restaurant. This one was a splurge and a different experience than lunch. It is located at the very prime modern building Sindhorn tower and you can conveniently reserve your table here.

Saneh Jaan prides itself with serving authentic Thai cuisine cooked in a traditional way serving ingredients from all over the country. They had a la carte but my friend and I chose to order the set menu. They had two set menu and we ordered both of them so we could try all their dishes. All their dishes were so good!! Really showcased the flavours of Thailand. I really enjoyed this experience that it made the list of my top 5 fine dining experience.
